This season of life does not really allow me to read in the way I once did...I love to read, but I have really had to start being selective and make sure that what I am reading is truly going to benefit me in some way. I miss the days of lounging by the pool and reading silly, just-for-fun fiction, but when I'm old and gray, that's where you'll find me...and by then, I'll probably be wearing one of those bathing suits with a long skirt...I'll have a wide-brim hat on my head...and oh my goodness, never mind...back to books...
If you popped in our master bedroom, this is what you would see on my nightstand: a brand new stack of books that I am getting ready to attack. Thanks to lots of fun gift cards, I recently purchased several titles on my current bucket list [of reads for 2014], and I wanted to share some of them with you today.
1. At the top of the stack, you will find "Hands-Free Mama". I've heard great things about this book! No matter how careful we try to be, I think reminders are good; and I think this one will be a great challenge for me.
2. If you are a mama and have never heard of Sally Clarkson, you must start following her in some way. Visit her blog. Read one (or all) of her books. She is full of wisdom and encouragement, and I am excited about reading these two gems: "The Mission of Motherhood" and "The Ministry of Motherhood".
3. "Everyday Confetti" - I absolutely love turning ordinary days into celebrations, and this book is all about that. Can't wait!
4. "One Thousand Gifts" - I realize that most all of you have probably already read this, attended the book club, and completed the study guide, but I STILL have not read it. I'm looking forward to learning from her perspective.
5. Have you read Melanie Shankel's books: "Sparkly Green Earrings" & "The Anteleope in the Living Room"? I am excited to read them, and I think they are going to be what I take on Beach Trip #1 this summer. I've heard I will laugh, and laugh, and laugh some more.

I can join you in the small % that haven't read One Thousand Gifts. It's hanging out on my night stand waiting to be read. I am terribly at making time to read, but I really enjoy it. I'm adding Everyday Confetti to my to read list. It looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteI have had One Thousand Gifts on my shelf and have planned to start it several times and still haven't read it either. I also have Sparkly Green Earrings on my Kindle waiting to be read. Looks like a great list for the summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these good reads. I've heard of several, but read none of them. I'm needing some new ideas for books. Have a great Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteI've only heard of Sparkly Green Earrings. My mom loved it. I'll have to look into the others. I always reread The Hunger Games trilogy when I don't know what to read!
