Summer Activities for Kids
Around here, we have our typical summer favorites:
mornings at the pool
afternoons at the park
bubbles in the yard
sidewalk chalk in the driveway
homemade ice cream/freeze pops
extra visits to out-of-town family
playing in the sprinkler
meeting friends at the splash pad
...but today, I want to share with you a few gems I spotted in my search for activities that I could work in to our plans for summer fun!
My Goal: I do not want to be afraid of messes! I actually love creative messes, but sometimes I am guilty of trying to keep things from getting out of hand when really...it's ok. During my time in the elementary classroom, I saw some of the best learning experiences grow out of really, really big messes!
I have chosen activities that are easy...fun ideas that require very little when it comes to materials, preparation, etc.
Just remember to put your kids in play clothes - pieces that you don't mind getting a little...well...messy.

I love this idea for painting with ice cubes! My toddler loves to do art projects, and I think this will be a lot of fun for him~
Speaking of ice cubes, have you ever frozen toys in ice cubes, and then let your kiddo experience the melting process? So fun! I'm thinking about doing a round of nothing but dinosaurs...My toddler has some small plastic dinosaurs that could make for a fun "archeological discovery". ;-)
I love this idea of making summer snow! All you need is shaving cream~

DeleteMy kids loved painting with water too!! It's brilliant and not really that messy either!! They've also painted the shed, fence and coal bunker with paints and chalks - it does wash off in the rain eventually but really brightens up the garden!
ReplyDeleteIf your kids are into science you could try this one outside - a cheap bottle of lemonade and a packet of polos - simply drop the polos into the lemonade bottle and watch what happens - kids love it but you might end up a bit sticky!! x
