This weekend, I am offering a giveaway of this adorable book: The Knight and the Firefly by my sweet friend, Tara Reeves.
Meet the Author & Her Family
Elizabeth, I'm delighted you invited me to participate in your weekend giveaway of a book series that was inspired years ago when our twins were toddlers. Growing up, my family read aloud five chapters of Psalms a day and one chapter of Proverbs. I always thought it would be a blessing to write a children's book series with each story based on a different Psalm. God's Word is Truth and I am thankful for parents who taught me to apply His Word to every aspect of my life.
I desire to do the same. At night, I often journal creative ideas. In 2003, I had written the outline for a story about a little boy named Oliver and his firefly friend, Phineas, struggling with an issue Caroline and Daniel were facing at the time: fear. Especially fear when the lights were turned out. I filed this idea while publishing my first book based on Romans 12:2 with my sister, Christa. Then, our son Daniel was diagnosed with leukemia. It wasn't until after Daniel's chemotherapy treatments ended in 2010 that I pulled out the dusty file containing "The Knight and the Firefly." A "buddy person," I asked my friend Amanda Jenkins if she'd like to partner with me on this publication. She agreed and we began the process of expanding Oliver's adventure.
"The Nightlight Chronicles" was born!
Each book in this series is based on a different felt need and Oliver is introduced by Phineas to a new Psalm in every one.
Scheduled for release in February 2015, "The Pirate and the Firefly" is based on Psalm 1. Its subtitle is "a boy, a bug, and a lesson in wisdom."
Throughout this series, it's my prayer children and adults will see how God's Word is alive, active and applicable.
Recently, I have heard about several Marines deployed overseas who have copies of "The Knight and the Firefly" based on Psalm 91. They are skyping their children at bedtime reading Oliver's Scripture adventure to them.
Isn't this series precious? I think this book would make a great gift for any little ones in your life.
