You are not enough...

I'm sure you've heard it, too: well-meaning individuals encouraging you to hold on to the idea that You are enough. It sounds encouraging. It feels empowering. It seems inspirational. But it is a lie.

You are not enough...

You see, you are not enough, but He is.

We are not sufficient in ourselves to claim that anything comes from us, because our sufficiency is from God.
-2 Corinthians 3:5

Friends, our confidence...our sufficiency...our enough-ness is not because we are enough, but because He alone is everything we need. It is only through His power that we live and move and have our being.

As a mom, this resonates with me so much. Many of you have been (or are currently) in my same life stage where you are raising little ones. At times, it is incredibly difficult...exhausting...frustrating...did I mention difficult? There are many mornings when I wake up and think to myself I simply can not do this today, and it is in those moments (If I choose to listen closely enough...) when I hear this sweet reminder: My grace is sufficient for you, and my strength is made perfect in [your] weakness. Wow! 2 Corinthians is absolutely jam-packed with reminders of where I can find strength...and the answer is definitely not within myself. If I thought I had to depend on my own own positive own determination and motivation...Well, I would be a sunk ship.

No matter what season of life you find yourself, may I encourage you that the most beautiful stories of triumph are the ones where individuals came to the end of themselves and saw God do something amazing in their heart and life? These individuals experienced supernatural life change...not because of anything they were able to do on their own...but because they looked to the only One who has the power to bring true transformation.

Maybe you find yourself in a place where you are struggling with paralyzing "mom guilt", devastation over past failures, or other feelings of inadequacy. Yes, while we must be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's working in our heart in various areas where we need to grow, please allow me to encourage you that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

Are you in Christ? While I love to write about "all kinds of things", the driving purpose behind my writing ministry is to point you to the One who created you...the One who knows everything there is to know about you...the One who longs to live in relationship with you. Do you know Him? He has already defeated sin and death, and He desires for you to live in victory as His from condemnation.

Only when we acknowledge that we are not enough is He able to work through our lives in powerful ways that allow us to be a part of impacting the world.

How am I impacting the world? Well, in this season, I'm changing diapers, cleaning up spills, teaching the alphabet, and coordinating play dates. What have you been called to do right here...right now? Friends, we can only do it by depending on the One who is enough...

...I am not enough, but He is.
