Christmas Books for Kids

Just before Thanksgiving, I posted some of my favorite Thanksgiving Books for Kids (Toddlers & Up). and today, I want to share with you several of my favorite Christmas books for kids of all ages.

Some are faith-based - others are not - but my hope is that you will spot something that your family will enjoy.

Christmas Books

Mooseltoe - Hilarious!

The Christmas Crocodile - Another funny one!

The Little Drummer Mouse - This one is beautiful - complete with gorgeous illustrations.

Alabaster's Song - I realize that the cover of this one may look a little cheesy, but the story is so very sweet. I cried the first time I heard it read aloud. Max Lucado's books are always very touching and include a wonderful message. I also love Punchinello and the Most Marvelous Gift - another one of his Christmas books for children.

Josie's Gift - Older children - especially girls- would appreciate this story - another illustrator with an amazing talent!

A Circle City Christmas - This is the perfect book to emphasize the true meaning of Christmas to preschoolers/young elementary students.

Corduroy's Christmas - My Caleb loves Corduroy, and he loves "lift-the-flap books" even more, so this is a great holiday book for him to enjoy.

Can You See What I See?
David loves this one! *smile*

Bear Stays Up for Christmas - This entire series of books is a lot of fun! Kohls sometimes runs a special on them~

A Pirate's Night Before Christmas - Do you have boys? Well, here ya go!

These books are from Hallmark, and are oftentimes marked waaaay down after Christmas - I purchased one of these last year - for a dollar!

It is required that you bake cookies to eat while you read this one!
Bed, Bath, and Beyond sells an adorable pan that will help you make a whole family of Gingerbread cookies - so cute!
A friend of mine recently picked up a Ninjabread baking pan - I think Target sells them.
So many options - Happy Baking (and reading)! *smile*

The Jacket I Wear in the Snow - Lots of great Language Arts activities can accompany this book - whether you are working with an early reader (picture-recognition, etc.) or an older student (sequencing, etc.).

Ten on the Sled - Caleb loves the sing-song rhyme and the cute winter animals found in this one.

Just a few fun paperback picture books...

The Small One - When I tell you this one is my favorite, I mean it. I love the message! It brings tears to my eyes every.single.time. If you do not visit Amazon to find any other book mentioned in this post, at least get this one. You!

Snowmen At Christmas and Snowmen at Night
Kids love this series, and the pictures are a lot of fun!

A glimpse into our Christmas board book collection...
(Jan Brett's books are always beautiful!)

I love the simplicity of this book - and the accurate representation of the stable scene without the wise men.

Have you met Mrs. Wishy-Washy? We love her!
Her non-holiday book is a hoot, and this one is just as fun!

If you are looking for a beautiful version of "The Night Before Christmas", this is it~
Just this week, I spotted it on Books-A-Million's website.
A friend of ours recently bought the boys this version, and it's gorgeous.
We read it just for make-believe - as with some of the other Santa themed books listed here - and I think you will like it, too.
The Night Before Christmas - Classic Edition

Also be sure to check out the children's version of It's a Wonderful Life~ It is beautiful!

Around Christmastime - when I was teaching - I would wrap up several Christmas books, and we would unwrap a "gift" each day as we looked forward to holiday break.
This may be an idea you would like to incorporate in to your home!

What are some of your family's favorites?

Merry Christmas, Everyone~
